Over the next few hours, there were a few more unexplained absences. People came to me, asking if I had seen so-and-so, who was supposed to be at some important meeting that they'd have to be crazy to miss. But I didn't pay much attention to this, partly because I was too tired to care, and partly because all I could think about was Frank.
However, I did have a meeting of my own to go to. It was one I couldn't miss, so my worrying about Frank would have to wait until later.
I reached the conference room at exactly 11:00:00 AM. Which was expected, because everybody is always right on time here. What wasn't expected was what I saw when I got there.
"That's odd," I muttered out loud. "Where's Harry? And Brian? And Leslie? And Gloria?" The conference room was completely empty.
Before I had time to think anything else, I heard screams coming from not far away. And these weren't good screams.
I ran towards the sound of the commotion, and saw a crazy man going completely berserk. People in various states of consciousness were piled up on his left and right, apparently victims of his rampage.
Two security guards were pointing guns at him, while a few more had come up from behind and were struggling to restrain him.
I took a closer look at the crazy man, and wondered if he was really a man at all. He looked like some kind of mutant, his face twisted into a grotesque mask of terror. Even more shocking were his glowing eyes. They shined an unnatural lustrous blue. In the dark I'm sure they would have been far brighter than a full moon on the clearest day, and even in the light they were completely mesmerizing.
But the most shocking thing of all was that I recognized him.
"Frank?"
