Right then, we were briefly interrupted. "Jack," the interruption said, "sorry to butt in, but have you seen Ivana?"

"No Sal, I haven't. But I'm looking for her. Ask her to call me, OK?"

"Will do," Sal said. "I don't know where she could be. She's way late for a meeting she can't be late for. OK, gotta go, sorry again." He scurried off.

"Now then," I said to Plenty, "where were we?"

"I was hoping you were about to talk to me about mesothelioma," she said. "I'm kind of embarrassed to say so as a brand new attorney in Mesothelioma Lawyers, New York, but I actually don't know much about the mesothelioma disease itself, only the laws about it."

"Well," I said, "you'll learn about it as you go. But here are the basics. Mesothelioma is a type of cancer, and it's almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. Nationwide, that is. In this town, it's almost never caused by exposure to asbestos, but we have no idea what's causing it. Anyway, cancerous cells develop in the mesothelium, which is a protective lining covering most of the internal organs. Tumors can appear in the pleura, the peritoneum, the heart, the pericardium, or the tunica vaginalis."

"You just threw a lot of medical terms at me," she said.

"My wife's a doctor. Anyway, these are all terms you'll learn soon enough. Don't worry about it, just take things one day at a time. And whatever you do, never forget to be proud of your profession. We have a very special role to play here."

"And why is that?" she asked.

"Because," I answered, "we are the mesothelioma lawyers, and we are the dreamers of dreams."
