And I thought that he was in the office when we talked, but come to think of it, I'm not sure that he said he was. He could have been online at home. But then, he would have told me that before I left, right? And I had no idea if Janice was in the office when they talked. She could definitely have been at home.

Dammit, what was going on here?

"You look confused," someone said.

I turned to see the young woman who had been on the receiving end of the other guard's fury.

"You look upset," I replied.

"This is my first week here," she said. "And I forgot that everyone has to badge in, and I guess I was just nervous about the apocalypse." That was another 2012 comment that I ignored.

"Don't let these guys get to you," I said. "They're just doing their job. They have to be intimidating so people don't try any funny stuff. You'll get used to whipping out your badge, and then it will just be a habit on autopilot."

"You seem nice," she said with a beautiful smile that looked a whole lot better than her tears. "I'm Plenty."

You certainly are, I thought.

"Plenty O'Lawsuits," she said.

You'll fit right in here, I thought.

"Are you a mesothelioma attorney?" I asked. She nodded.

"We have that in common then," I said. "I'm Jack Crowley, I'm one of the partners here."

"Jack Crowley!" she screamed. "I've heard so much about you! I was supposed to meet with you during my interviews, but they said you were really busy on a huge case. Anyway, it's great to finally meet you."
