"Welcome to the second piktun, buddy."

I heard these words but couldn't see where they came from. Either Mrityu had gotten much friendlier, or his plan had backfired.

I raised my head and looked up to see Tuck looking down at me.

He said, "By the way, I understand why you needed to put me in a sleeper hold, but try it again, and I'm gonna whoop your ass."

"Tuck?" I asked. "Is that you? Are you 'you' again?"

He laughed. "Yeah, it's me. See, I even got my hat back. I'm fine. We all are."

I slowly got up and looked around. There were people everywhere. Many were staring at me, but others were looking for people, cleaning up the mess, treating the injured, or just talking about what happened.

Then Milli came running up behind me, nearly knocking me over as she threw her arms around my neck. "Oh, Jack," she said, "thank God you're OK. I was so worried. You were out for a really long time."

I had never been more glad to see her. "Milli...my God, I had no idea what had happened to you." I just held her for a minute, then lowered my voice and asked, "Is the baby OK?"

She looked hesitantly at Tuck, and I said, "I already told him, when I thought we weren't going to make it."

She smiled and said, "I had an ultrasound to check. The baby's fine. He's doing just fine."
