"Phazon and asbestos are made from the same stuff, but they have vastly different potency levels. The difference between phazon and asbestos is like the difference between injecting heroin and rubbing it into your skin. Phazon has tremendous power, but we've only started to see it today. That's how the exponential function works. It stays flat for a really long time, then suddenly it shoots up to infinity."

"So what's Mrityu's deal?" Tuck asked. "He doesn't like Earth, so he throws an asteroid full of phazon our way, to poison us 65 million years later? It doesn't make sense."

"Mrityu didn't send the phazon," Morty answered with an evil smile. "He is the phazon! The phazon is his blood and body, and the source of his power. It's how he infects people, makes them sick, poisons their minds, and turns them to his side. As the phazon becomes amplified and the disease spreads, his energy grows. The god who was supposed to stop him, Prana, was too weak. Even though Mrityu was still in a purely energetic form, he was still able to destroy his enemy. Soon all of Mrityu's opposition will be defeated, and he will have the strength to return to his physical form. Then he will create the new world, and I will be its leader."

Tuck and I were both speechless, filled with fear and disgust. Finally I asked, "Why you?"

"Because Mrityu picked me!" Morty answered. "I'm not exactly sure why. He said I was an exact match for what he needed, something about having my thought vibrations perfectly aligned for the new world. But he said the opposite about you, Jack."

I took that as a great compliment.
