But then, Tuck remembered something he had learned from the artifacts found at that burial site. The color returned to his cheeks, and he almost smiled. Now Morty was the one who looked confused.
"There's something you apparently don't know about Mrityu," Tuck said with the most confidence he could muster. "If he's real, then the rest of the legend is real as well. Mrityu, the god of death, didn't come to Earth alone. Prana, the god of life, came after him to defend the Earth. A prophecy says there will be a great battle between them to determine the fate of the world. So don't count on victory just yet."
Tuck's brief smile faded soon enough though, as Morty's smile returned. "What you say is true, Dr. Jones, except your timing is off. The battle you speak of has already happened. Mrityu won. Prana is dead. It wasn't supposed to happen that way, but something occurred that allowed the battle to happen prematurely. Humans weren't ready for it. Prana needed their collective consciousness in order to defeat Mrityu, but he didn't have it. And this leaves us right where we are now, on the brink of Mrityu's domination of the planet."
Tuck's short-lived ray of hope was extinguished. His voice was now almost too weak to be audible. "Why did you come for me?" he asked.
"Come for you?" Morty responded quizzically. "Dr. Jones, I had never heard of you until today, until you came to us. We were watching Jack because Mrityu warned us about him. At first we had decided to simply keep Jack out of the loop. He's always been a great asset to the firm and a good friend personally, but his vision is too limited. We didn't think he was capable of doing the right thing."
"The right thing?" Tuck gasped in horror.
